Meet the site
Fish Hole is the second of the two secondary Lighthouse Bay moorings (with 100s and 1000s) that local divers describe as worth visiting when the main sites are busy. As the name suggests, the site is centred on a depression or hole in the reef that holds concentrations of fish.
The bay's reef is a series of limestone ridges and cracks on sand in 8–14 m, and like its neighbours Fish Hole attracts schooling reef fish, trevally, cod, turtles, sea snakes and reef sharks. It shares the bay's shelter from the prevailing south-westerly swell and is dived under the same conditions.
Published detail is minimal; treat it as a standard Lighthouse Bay dive suitable for Open Water divers and guided beginners. Coral was affected by the 2025 marine heatwave.
Planning notes: Open Water certification is recommended and the site is rated beginner. Expect to spend most of the dive around 12 m, with a maximum of about 14 m. Access is by boat only, and site selection depends on wind, swell and tide on the day. Best season: April–November (whale sharks March–July, humpbacks July–October, mantas year-round). Traffic: moderate (occasional charters/club dives).
