Meet the site
Guerilla Bay is a small, picturesque bay just north of Burrewarra Point, about a 10-minute drive south of Batemans Bay. It is one of the most popular shore dives in the area. The Marine Life Network calls it a photogenic, quiet shore diving site with easy snorkelling, small marine life and nearby reefs for deeper scuba. Spirit Divers' site guide rates it Easy with a maximum depth of 14 m and says it suits all levels. Downtoscuba describes it as a favourite site with nudibranchs, giant smooth stingrays, eagle rays, schools of fish and octopus, suitable for training and good at night.
The layout offers choices. The right side of the bay has sand and low reef full of life and is used for training. The left side has a rocky step-down with gutters and overhangs; from there you can turn left to explore them or turn right and swim a lap around the small island in the bay. The bottom is a mixture of rocky reef, boulders, kelp and sand to about 14–15 m. Common sightings include large smooth stingrays, eagle rays and fiddler rays on the sand, octopus, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, blue groper, wobbegongs and schools of sweep and yellowtail.
The bay is sheltered and shallow, so it is ideal for new divers, training, photographers and night divers. It is also a good snorkel. Because it is in the Batemans Marine Park, the fish are fairly tame. It can get busy with training groups on weekends, so arrive early. Burrewarra Point's boat dives are just around the corner for divers who want something deeper.
