Meet the site
Gulliver's is the third of Lighthouse Bay's moored regulars and completes the usual rotation with Blizzard Ridge and The Labyrinth. Like its neighbours it is a limestone ridge reef rising from sand at 12–14 m, with coral heads, ledges and overhangs along its margins.
Published descriptions of Gulliver's are thinner than for Blizzard Ridge, but operators describe the marine life as similar: large schools of reef fish, turtles, sea snakes, whitetip reef sharks and wobbegongs, moray eels, lionfish and potato cod, with occasional manta rays and, in winter and spring, humpback whales heard or seen during the dive. Pink soft corals and hard corals decorate the ridge. Its shallow depth and generally benign conditions make it a comfortable first dive of the day or a relaxed second dive after Blizzard Ridge.
The bay's importance rests on its protection: when strong south-westerlies close the west side of Ningaloo and the Muiron Islands, Lighthouse Bay on the lee of the Cape usually stays diveable. That makes Gulliver's and its neighbours the most consistently dived boat sites around Exmouth, and since August 2025 they have taken more traffic because Muiron Islands diving has been paused by Dive Ningaloo after coral bleaching.
It suits all levels from Discover Scuba up. Expect some heatwave coral damage. Look under ledges for wobbegongs and resting whitetips, and scan the sand edges for rays and sea snakes foraging in the open.
Planning notes: Open Water certification is recommended and the site is rated beginner. Expect to spend most of the dive around 11 m, with a maximum of about 14 m. Access is by boat only, and site selection depends on wind, swell and tide on the day. Best season: April–November (whale sharks March–July, humpbacks July–October, mantas year-round). Traffic: popular (weekly charters).
