Halls Reef is one of the inshore reefs of Laguna Bay, close to the Noosa River mouth. The Noosa fishing charter Deep Sea Fishing Co gives its position as 26°20.250'S 153°05.110'E, about 2 km from the Noosa bar, with depths of 15-20 m, and notes that its proximity to the river mouth brings bait flushed out by freshwater discharge. The Noosa kayak-fishing community lists the same mark.
It is primarily a fishing reef, and there is little published dive information. Based on its depth and position, it is a lower-profile rocky reef than Jew Shoal, with the same subtropical mix of soft corals, sponges and reef fish, and occasional pelagics following the bait. Its closeness to the river makes visibility more variable than at Jew Shoal – worse after rain and on the ebb, better on a flood tide in dry weather.
In practice, divers visiting Noosa will do Jew Shoal with SubSurface Scuba, which advertises 'two other local reefs' on its triple-dive trips without naming them; Halls may be one of those, but that is not confirmed. For divers with their own boat or a dive kayak, it is a short run from the bar and a reasonable option on calm days.
Because it is a popular fishing mark, expect anglers on the reef on good days, and take care with line and anchors. Plan dives for a rising tide and calm, dry weather to get the best out of the site.
