It is a small beach just north of the Cape Jervis township and ferry terminal, facing north-west across the entrance to Gulf St Vincent toward Kangaroo Island, and is listed by local caravan parks as a nearby beach attraction. The coast around Cape Jervis combines sandy bays with rocky points and low reef, washed by relatively clean water from Backstairs Passage. Reef here typically supports brown algae and kelp, with sweep, old wives, magpie perch, wrasse, leatherjackets and blue devils, and sand and seagrass patches where rays and flathead may be found. Leafy and weedy seadragons occur along this coast. These are regional expectations rather than documented observations. The site's appeal is mainly for divers already in Cape Jervis – for example before or after the Kangaroo Island ferry – looking for an easy shore snorkel or dive. The nearby Fisheries Beach and Cape Jervis barge offer more documented interest, and the famous Rapid Bay and Second Valley are within 20-30 minutes' drive. Divers should confirm access, as land use around the beach may have changed, and should be aware of tidal streams near the cape. Reports of what is found would help the Scuba Divers Federation build a better record. Snorkelling first on a calm morning is the sensible way to judge whether the site is worth a tank. Leave the reef and any shells exactly as you found them.
