Meet the site
The Edge is a Passions of Paradise site at the southern end of Milln Reef, where the mooring lies along the reef margin. For divers it is a wall dive: a coral wall draped in life that drops away from the reef flat, where fish congregate in the current running along the edge. Snorkellers can stay on the reef flat above, which makes it a good site for mixed groups. For advanced divers there is an extra option. Running away from the wall is a row of deep bommies the crew call the Pinnacles, and when the current is right the guides run it as a drift dive, travelling along the line of bommies with schools of barracuda and the resident sharks for company. The wall itself carries a dense cover of hard and soft corals, with fans and whips where the current is strongest. Fusiliers, surgeonfish and snapper school in the water column, and trevally, reef sharks and occasionally larger pelagic fish patrol the edge. In the coral look for anemonefish, parrotfish, angelfish and butterflyfish, and for turtles resting on ledges. The neighbouring mooring, The Drop, is on the same southern end of the reef and is used in north winds. The Edge suits confident Open Water divers on the wall, while the Pinnacles drift is better left to experienced or Advanced divers comfortable in current and with deploying a surface marker. Visibility is generally good because of the current flow. The site is typically part of a two-site day, paired with a sheltered mooring elsewhere on Milln.
