Meet the site
The Rocks is one of Scuba IQ's Agincourt moorings, described as an easy dive featuring coral boulders along the reef, with reef sharks. It is a beginner-friendly site, used for newer divers and as a relaxed dive for anyone. The reef edge is lined with large coral boulders – massive Porites and other slow-growing corals that form rounded mounds, sometimes several metres high. Between them are sand channels and smaller coral heads. The boulders host a variety of reef fish, from parrotfish and surgeonfish grazing on algae to damselfish and chromis sheltering in the coral. Look closely at the boulder surfaces for Christmas tree worms, feather-duster worms and small crustaceans. Reef sharks are the other highlight. Whitetip reef sharks often rest on the sand beside the boulders during the day, and grey reef sharks or blacktips may cruise past. They are not aggressive and usually give divers a wide berth. The site is shallow and navigation is simple: follow the reef edge out and back. Scuba IQ does not publish depths, but the easy rating suggests most of the dive is in the 5–15 m band. Visibility is typically 15–30 m. The Rocks is ideal for new divers, discover-scuba participants and anyone looking for a gentle dive with reliable shark sightings. Snorkellers can also enjoy the boulders from the surface. On Scuba IQ's small-group days out of Port Douglas the site is often used for the third dive of the day, when divers want a shallow, low-effort profile after deeper morning dives, and the guide can adapt the route to the group's experience. Its proximity to the other Scuba IQ moorings means it is easy to combine with Nobody's or Your Place.
