Sandon Shoals and the general inshore reef country off Wooli and Sandon function as the reliable, close-to-home option for Wooli Dive Centre on days when the longer runs to North Solitary Island (75 minutes) or Pimpernel Rock (90 minutes) are ruled out by weather. Sitting only about 20 minutes from the Wooli wharf, these reefs let the operator keep running trips through conditions that would otherwise cancel the day entirely, and they see correspondingly more regular use than the marquee remote sites further out. The terrain is a typical northern Solitary Islands Marine Park mix of broken rock reef, gutters and low ledges in roughly 8 to 25 m, supporting grey nurse sharks moving along this stretch of coast, turtles, wobbegong sharks, kingfish and the general subtropical reef fish community found throughout the marine park. While it lacks the singular drawcards of Anemone Bay's clownfish density or Pimpernel Rock's giant tunnel, it offers a solid, dependable dive in a part of the park that otherwise sees relatively little attention compared with the more heavily marketed South Solitary Island grounds out of Coffs Harbour. Because Sandon Shoals is used mainly as a fallback and a training/check-out ground rather than a headline destination, published detail on named individual sites within the shoal system is limited, and much of what is known comes from the operator's own local knowledge rather than any independent dive-site database. For visiting divers booked with Wooli Dive Centre, it is worth asking directly what the plan is for the day, since a Sandon Shoals trip and a North Solitary Island or Pimpernel Rock trip are very different experiences in terms of distance, exposure and marine life density.
