Understand the risk
Workload and temperature can change circulation and gas uptake or elimination. These interactions are complex; a simple rule such as “warm up as fast as possible” or “drink more to prevent the bends” is not a reliable prevention strategy.
Exercise, temperature and hydration: what connects
Workload
Changes physiological demand
- Plan a manageable route and exit
Temperature
Can change during a dive
- Use suitable protection
Hydration
General wellbeing matters
- Do not treat water as a DCS cure
Concept relationships from this lesson. These are discussion points, not a dive profile or emergency treatment sequence. Read the cited sources; qualified review is pending.
Put the knowledge into practice
Plan manageable exertion, suitable exposure protection and comfortable recovery. Avoid using hydration as permission to push a profile. Discuss demanding exits, heavy equipment handling and post-dive exercise with your instructor when planning the day.
What to notice and discuss
| Consider | Why it matters | Planning or learning response |
|---|---|---|
| Workload | Changes physiological demand | Plan a manageable route and exit |
| Temperature | Can change during a dive | Use suitable protection |
| Hydration | General wellbeing matters | Do not treat water as a DCS cure |
PAUSE & THINK
What would you do?
The exit requires a long climb carrying heavy equipment after an already strenuous dive.
Reveal the discussion answer
Discuss practical help, a different exit or a different dive before entering.
Frequently asked questions
Can drinking extra water cancel out an aggressive profile?
No. Hydration cannot erase exposure or replace conservative planning and medical assessment.
