Repetitive and multi-day diving

The next dive starts with the exposure history from the dives before it.

Understand the risk

Surface intervals do not instantly reset inert-gas loading. Multi-day trips also introduce fatigue, cold and pressure to complete every scheduled dive. Each dive should remain optional and be planned using your own complete history.

THE VISUAL EXPLANATION

Repetitive and multi-day diving: what connects

Keep history · Plan intervals · Reassess

Previous dives

Remain relevant

  • Keep a continuous record

Surface interval

Part of the plan

  • Follow your training and device

Fatigue

Can accumulate

  • Reassess each dive

Concept relationships from this lesson. These are discussion points, not a dive profile or emergency treatment sequence. Read the cited sources; qualified review is pending.

Put the knowledge into practice

Keep your computer with you throughout the diving sequence and log relevant details. Tell the operator about diving elsewhere earlier in the trip. Leave room for rest, changing conditions and an early finish instead of treating the advertised dive count as a target.

PAUSE & THINK

What would you do?

You join a liveaboard after diving with another operator that morning.

Reveal the discussion answer

Disclose the earlier dives before the next briefing so the team can plan appropriately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reset or swap computers to get a fresh limit?

No. Removing the exposure record does not remove the exposure from your body.
