Understand the risk

Water temperature, duration, suit fit and surface exposure all matter. Numb hands and deteriorating dexterity can make an exit or equipment response harder. Cold is a reason to end the dive, not a test of determination.

Put the knowledge into practice

Use appropriate exposure protection and get drysuit training when needed. Plan shelter and dry clothing between dives. Significant confusion, reduced responsiveness or other serious symptoms require emergency assistance and appropriate first aid.

PAUSE & THINK

What would you do?

You cannot operate a familiar clip comfortably because your hands are cold.

Reveal the discussion answer

Communicate and finish the dive using the planned procedure rather than adding another circuit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I copy another diver’s suit thickness?

Individual needs and exposure differ. Use advice suited to your body, equipment and conditions.
