Foggy Fish is the shallower shelf of the broader Foggy Reef system, sitting in 29-32 m immediately adjacent to the deeper, more famous cave section. Terrigal Underwater Group describes it simply as a fantastic dive, and much of that reputation rests on the sheer density and variety of fish holding over this part of the reef — living up to its name in a way that gives operators a reliable second option on the same mark as Foggy's Cave, either as a stand-alone dive on a day when the group doesn't need to push the full depth of the cave, or as the shallower half of a two-tank trip to the same reef system.Structurally, Foggy Fish is typical of the region's deep reef network: solid bommies and ledges rising off the surrounding sand, supporting sponge and gorgonian growth and providing plenty of shelter for the resident and transient fish life that gives the site its name. Grey nurse sharks that use the nearby cave for resting are also seen moving across this shallower section of reef, so there's a real chance of an encounter here without committing to the deeper, more demanding profile of the cave itself. Because it sits only a few metres shallower than Foggy's Cave, no-decompression time is still limited, and this remains a dive for divers with genuine deep-diving comfort rather than a casual Open Water outing, but it offers a marginally more generous bottom time than the full cave dive for photographers wanting to work the reef and fish life at a slightly less rushed pace.
