Build safer diving habits

Are you ready to dive today?

A safe decision starts with the diver you are today, not the number of dives in your logbook.

YouDive educational guide · References checked 30 September 2026 · Independent instructor and medical review pending. This library does not provide certification, individual medical clearance or a dive plan.

Understand the risk

Consider current health, fatigue, recent practice and your comfort with the proposed conditions together. A familiar site can become demanding when you are tired or using unfamiliar equipment. A certification records training; it does not assess how you feel this morning.

Beyond recent experience

  • Choose a suitable alternative

Concept relationships from this lesson. These are discussion points, not a dive profile or emergency treatment sequence. Read the cited sources; qualified review is pending.

Put the knowledge into practice

Before agreeing to a dive, describe one thing you feel confident doing and one thing you would like help with. Tell the operator about changes in health and follow the current medical screening process. A suitable alternative may be a refresher, a simpler site or a day out of the water.

PAUSE & THINK

What would you do?

You slept poorly and feel unwell, but the boat trip is already paid for.

Reveal the discussion answer

Tell the crew before gearing up. The booking cost is not evidence that you are fit to dive.

Frequently asked questions

Can a previous medical clearance cover a new illness?

Do not assume it does. A change in health deserves a new discussion with an appropriately qualified clinician.
