This guide explains how to organise questions and logistics; it does not reproduce examination tasks, pass criteria or answer material. Obtain those arrangements through the Course Director and current official information.

Keep the examination process clear

  1. Confirm eligibility
  2. Organise the actual event
  3. Follow official instructions
  4. Clarify the next steps

This diagram summarises the article. It is not an in-water procedure, identification image or competency assessment.

Confirm eligibility for the actual event

Ask the Course Director to confirm that programme completion, experience records and date-sensitive documents meet the requirements for the intended IE. Keep the confirmation tied to a specific event and date. Do not assume a place on an IDC automatically reserves or approves an examination place.

Plan the practical logistics

Confirm the location, check-in instructions, required materials, equipment arrangements and the appropriate contact if something changes. Ask which costs are included and which are separate. Allow for transport between venues if relevant, and avoid relying on an itinerary copied from a previous candidate’s event. Examination arrangements can differ between dates and locations.

Know what happens after the result

Before attending, ask how results, any further development and certification processing are handled. If additional assessment or training is required, obtain the official explanation and current options rather than relying on a forum account. A successful assessment also needs to be distinguished from the professional status and employment arrangements required before you begin work.
