Understand the risk
Follow your training and the manufacturer’s instructions for the actual configuration. Identify each other’s releases, alternate gas source and inflation controls. Looking at familiar-looking equipment is not the same as checking its operation.

Put the knowledge into practice
Build an unhurried check into the preparation sequence. If interrupted, resume deliberately rather than assuming the unfinished step was completed. After a change such as replacing a cylinder, revisit the affected checks before entering.
