The idea
A scuba regulator system makes gas from the cylinder available for breathing. A first stage connects at the cylinder valve, while a second stage is the breathing component at the mouth. The system can include other connections and an alternate breathing source.
For now, learn the names and ask which component is which on the equipment you will use. Do not infer hose routing, compatibility or service procedures from a cartoon. Those depend on the actual system, its manufacturer and the training being undertaken.
