The idea
Marine debris is human-made material in the marine environment. Some objects can be entangled, heavy, sharp or associated with living organisms. Seeing litter does not mean that an untrained visitor should attempt to remove it.
Ask local organisations about supervised activities suited to your training, including shore-based options. Reporting an observation through an appropriate programme can also help. Follow the organiser’s instructions rather than improvising a recovery underwater.
